Slip Rings

The Rotating Electric collectors or Slip Rings are used to transfer power and electrical signals from a fixed structure to one in continuous rotation. The slip rings are made up of two parts: an external one called STATOR (because normally stationary) consisting of brushes of noble material (golden or silver copper) and an inner part called ROTOR (because normally rotating) consisting of rings also made of materials nobles. The operation is reversible, ie the external part, which is normally fixed, can be rotated and, consequently, the internal part (which normally rotates) can be kept fixed.

How is a slip ring made?
The slip rings are also known with terms such as electric rotary joint, electric collector, electric joint or electrical joint. The main function of the slip ring is the transfer of signals or electric power from a fixed structure to a mobile, allowing a continuous rotation preventing the electrical conductors from being stressed by mechanical torsion.
Motion Control Products has paid special attention to the design and manufacture of the two elements that come into contact: the brushes and rings. The design elements include selection of precious materials, their relative thickness, the geometry, and the careful selection of the bearings. Together, this can provide an estimated service life of up to 50 million rotations.
There are six different types of slip rings available from standard catalogue:
Slip Ring Models

ER Series: "Through-bore" Slipring
As one of the most requested slip ring models, our ER series rotary joint is characterised by the through hole with below main features:
- Through hole size: 3mm - 5000mm
- Circuit number: up to 300
- Protection grade: up to IP68
- Rotation speed: 1100rpm
- Current: up to 2000Amp
- Signal type to be integrated: Ethernet, USB, HDMI, SDI, Canbus, Profibus, Audio
- Anti-vibration, Anti-shock, Corrosion resistance
- Waterproofing IP rating up to IP68 and crosstalk prevention
The applications include converting, medical, pharmaceutical, CNC machines, packaging, defense and more.

AR/BR/CR Series: Capsule Slipring
AR / BR / CR series "Capsule" type slip rings are manifolds without through holes. Thanks to the gold-gold contact technology (military grade surface treatment) applied to the brushes and the rings, it allows the transfer of high frequency signals as well as the transfer of fieldbuses with up to 1G bandwidth, used especially in video surveillance systems and medical /pharmaceuticals.
- Compact sizes: 5.5mm - 35.5mm (OD)
- Circuit number: 1 - 200
- Protection grade: IP51 - IP68
- Operation temperature: up to 100°C
- Low contact resistance, low electrical noise, low torque and smooth rotation
- Transmit data and analogue signal, compatible with bus protocol

BHR Series: Frameless Type
The rotating joints of BHR series are also known as large current collectors or high-power slip rings. The contact material used in the brush slip rings is carbon brushes. They are typically used for high current channels, such as 100 Amps, 200 Amps, or higher.
- High Current Capacity: Handles up to 2000 Amps and 20,000 Volts.
- Easy Maintenance: Simplifies servicing and prolongs operational life.
- Additional options: fibre optics, encoders, radio frequency (RF) joints, pneumatics, and hydraulics
Typical applications include drilling platforms, ship machinery, automatic machines, port machinery, offshore cranes, cable reels, and propellers.

PR "Pancake" Type
Our PR series slip ring, in a "Flat" shape format, is ideal in tight vertical spaces. With a thickness as low as 4mm and through-hole sizes up to 600mm, they’re ultra-thin but incredibly reliable. Main features:
- Through hole size: 0 - 600mm
- Thickness: 6mm - 51mm
- Rotation speed: 0 - 500rpm
- Long lifespan: up to 10 million revolutions
- Clean transmission of USB, Ethernet, audio, video, and RS signals
With many advantages such as low torque, low friction, low electrical noise and long life, our pancake-shape slip rings are mainly applied to transmit precise signal together with power.

Pneumatic / Hydraulic Rotary Joint
The QR series pneumatic / hydraulic rotary joint is used specifically for transmitting gas and liquid, including compressed air, hydrogen, nitrogen, water, oil, coolant etc. These slip rings adopt different sealing methods according to the type of media, including gap sealing, mechanical sealing, and sealing of sealing parts. Each type of sealing method has it's own advantages and disadvantages. The connector size, installation size, and number of channels, can be customised according to the applications. Our QR series pneumatic / hydraulic slip ring has a long lifespan, and stable performance.
- Circuit No.: 1 - 24
- Channel No.: 1-20 channel (Optional)
- Rotating speeds up to 800rpm without maintenance
- Maximum Pressure: Barotropic:1MPa; Vacuum:-100kPa
- Customisable size and installation

"Faston" Type Slipring
HR series "Faston" type: FASTON terminals are connectors that are widely used in electronic and electrical equipment for quick and easy connection. With diameters of 32 to 46mm and from 2 to 8 contacts, our HR series slip ring designed with FASTON terminals is able to carry analogue power and signal at the same time. They are ideal for Flowpack, packaging and rotary tables, thanks to the option with IP65 protection rating.
